JKJAAC Welcomes APPG on Kashmir Meeting With UK Minister and Calls for Urgent Action on AJK Crisis

The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee welcomes the urgent meeting held by Imran Hussain MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir, together with more than 40 UK Parliamentarians, with the UK Minister of State for Pakistan and Kashmir-related affairs to raise serious concerns over the rapidly escalating situation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

JKJAAC appreciates the strong and timely intervention by UK Parliamentarians at a critical moment for the people of AJK. The concerns raised reflect the anxiety of British Kashmiris, diaspora families, and all those who are deeply worried about the safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of people in Rawalakot and across Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

According to the statement shared after the meeting, the Parliamentarians made clear the need for enhanced consular support for British nationals, an end to the lockdown, restoration of communications, resumption of peaceful negotiations, and respect for the inalienable human rights of Kashmiris.

JKJAAC fully supports these urgent demands. The ongoing communications disruption, restrictions on movement, arrests, use of force, and breakdown of dialogue have created fear, uncertainty, and distress among families both inside AJK and across the global Kashmiri diaspora.

The people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir are not asking for confrontation. They are demanding dignity, justice, accountable governance, implementation of signed agreements, restoration of civil liberties, and respect for their democratic rights.

JKJAAC calls on the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to immediately de-escalate the situation, restore internet and mobile communications, end coercive actions against civilians, ensure medical access for the injured, release peaceful detainees or produce them before courts, and resume meaningful negotiations with JKJAAC representatives.

JKJAAC also urges the UK Government, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the British High Commission in Islamabad to continue monitoring developments closely, provide support to affected British nationals and families, and use all appropriate diplomatic channels to encourage a peaceful resolution.

This is a moment for restraint, responsibility, and dialogue. The crisis in AJK must be resolved through political engagement, respect for human rights, and implementation of commitments already made to the people.
