The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee welcomes the serious concerns raised by Members of the UK Parliament regarding the reported communications blackout, broader lockdown, arrests, and escalating tensions in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
In a letter addressed to the UK Foreign Secretary, Parliamentarians expressed deep concern over the inability of many British Kashmiris to contact their relatives and loved ones in AJK. They also highlighted reports of arrests, restrictions on communications, and the breakdown of dialogue between authorities and representatives of the Joint Awami Action Committee.
JKJAAC appreciates the recognition that the situation must be addressed through peaceful dialogue, restraint, and meaningful engagement. The rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, access to communications, and public protest are fundamental democratic principles that must be protected, especially during times of heightened tension.
The committee reiterates that the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir are raising legitimate civic, governance, economic, and basic rights concerns. These issues require negotiation, implementation of agreed commitments, and a transparent political process — not communication shutdowns, arrests, or confrontation.
JKJAAC calls upon the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to immediately restore internet and communication services, release peaceful detainees, resume dialogue with JKJAAC representatives, and implement the commitments already made through signed agreements, including the 04 October 2025 agreement.
We also urge the international community, human rights institutions, and democratic representatives to continue monitoring the situation and to support efforts aimed at de-escalation, protection of fundamental rights, and a peaceful resolution.
The people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir deserve peace, dignity, justice, and the right to have their concerns addressed through dialogue rather than force.
