The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) welcomes the statement made by UK Member of Parliament Richard Burgon, who voiced his concern over the ongoing situation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and highlighted the humanitarian impact of communication restrictions on Kashmiri families.

JKJAAC appreciates Mr. Burgon's recognition that many members of the British Kashmiri diaspora remain deeply concerned about the welfare of their loved ones in Azad Jammu & Kashmir. His acknowledgement that communication disruptions have left families unable to establish contact with relatives has reflected the anxiety experienced by thousands of Kashmiris both within the region and across the world.

The Committee also welcomes Mr. Burgon's concern regarding reported restrictions on communications and media access, and his emphasis that the protection of human rights must remain at the heart of any response to the current situation.

JKJAAC particularly appreciates Mr. Burgon's call upon the Government of Pakistan to return to the negotiating table and engage with the legitimate and reasonable demands of the people through dialogue. From the outset, JKJAAC has maintained that peaceful engagement and meaningful dialogue are the only sustainable path towards resolving public grievances and restoring confidence.

The movement led by JKJAAC remains an indigenous, peaceful, and independent civil rights movement founded upon the principles of Haq-e-Hukamrani (the right to participatory governance) and Haq-e-Malkiat (the right of the people over their land and natural resources). Our movement seeks dignity, accountability, implementation of signed agreements, and protection of the fundamental rights of the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir through peaceful and democratic means.

JKJAAC reiterates its call upon the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to restore normal communications, safeguard fundamental freedoms, engage in meaningful dialogue, and honour the commitments previously made to the people through signed agreements.

The Committee welcomes the continued attention of parliamentarians, civil society, and the international community to developments in Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Constructive international engagement and respect for universal human rights principles can help create an environment in which peaceful dialogue and democratic solutions prevail.

JKJAAC remains firmly committed to non-violence, democratic engagement, and a peaceful resolution founded upon justice, human dignity, and the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
