JKJAAC Welcomes Journalist Azaz Syed’s Call for Dialogue and Recognition of Citizens’ Rights

The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) has welcomed the statement of senior Pakistani journalist Azaz Syed, in which he acknowledged that the people gathered in Rawalakot are not terrorists or foreign agents, but ordinary citizens demanding their political, constitutional and democratic rights.
JKJAAC believes that this recognition is an important step towards a more balanced and constructive national conversation regarding the ongoing rights movement in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
For months, JKJAAC has maintained that its movement is rooted in peaceful civic engagement, implementation of signed agreements, democratic accountability, and the protection of fundamental rights. The committee has consistently rejected attempts to portray the movement as a security threat, emphasizing that its demands relate to governance, public welfare, representation, and commitments previously accepted through negotiations with the government.
The committee appreciates Mr. Syed's call for dialogue over confrontation and his reminder that women, children, elderly citizens, workers, traders, students, and professionals participating in public demonstrations are members of the same society whose voices deserve to be heard.
JKJAAC reiterates its commitment to peaceful dialogue and believes that lasting solutions can only emerge through meaningful engagement, respect for democratic freedoms, implementation of agreed commitments, and acknowledgment of the legitimate concerns of the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The committee calls upon all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, transparency, and reconciliation in order to prevent further tensions and ensure that the rights and aspirations of the people are addressed through peaceful and democratic means.
