The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee welcomes the urgent concerns raised by Jammu Kashmir United Forum Australia in its letter to the Pakistan High Commission in Canberra regarding the deteriorating situation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The letter reflects the deep anxiety and distress felt by the Kashmiri diaspora in Australia, many of whom have been unable to contact their relatives and loved ones due to reported internet and communication shutdowns across AJK. It also highlights concerns over reports of restrictions on JAAC, arrests linked to peaceful demonstrations, and the need for immediate de-escalation.
JKJAAC appreciates the Australian Kashmiri community’s principled position in support of peace, justice, democratic rights, and a rights-based approach to resolving the situation. Their appeal rightly calls for the immediate restoration of internet and communication services, the release of detainees, the resumption of negotiations, and implementation of the commitments formally accepted in the 04 October 2025 agreement.
JKJAAC reiterates that the public rights movement in Azad Jammu & Kashmir is rooted in legitimate socio-economic, governance, and human rights concerns. These issues cannot be resolved through communication blackouts, arrests, bans, or confrontation. They require dialogue, transparency, implementation of signed agreements, and respect for the dignity and democratic rights of the people.
We call upon the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to urgently restore communication services, release peaceful detainees, resume structured negotiations with JKJAAC, and implement the agreed commitments without delay.
JKJAAC also urges the international Kashmiri diaspora, human rights organisations, democratic representatives, and civil society groups to continue raising their voices for peace, justice, and the protection of fundamental rights in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
The people of AJK deserve stability, dignity, public accountability, and a peaceful resolution through dialogue rather than force.
