The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) welcomes the emergency meeting convened by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kashmir, chaired by Imran Hussain MP, with Amnesty International and other experts to discuss the current situation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

JKJAAC appreciates the APPG's continued engagement and its recognition of the serious humanitarian and human rights concerns affecting the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. We particularly welcome the APPG's call for urgent action to address escalating tensions and its emphasis on protecting the rights and welfare of civilians.

The Committee welcomes the APPG's calls for:

  • The lifting of restrictions affecting normal life.

  • The immediate restoration of all communication services.

  • Unhindered access for food, medicine, and other essential humanitarian supplies.

  • Access for human rights organisations and peaceful mediators to assess the situation independently.

  • The immediate resumption of peaceful negotiations with the protection of the human rights of the Kashmiri people at the centre of the process.

JKJAAC believes these recommendations reflect the urgent humanitarian priorities that have consistently been raised by affected communities and by the British Kashmiri diaspora, many of whom remain deeply concerned for the safety and wellbeing of their families in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

The Committee is encouraged that Members of the UK Parliament continue to engage with ministers and relevant authorities in pursuit of a peaceful and rights-based resolution. International parliamentary engagement plays an important role in promoting dialogue, transparency, and respect for fundamental freedoms.

JKJAAC reiterates that its movement remains an indigenous, peaceful, and independent civil rights movement founded upon the principles of Haq-e-Hukamrani (the right to participatory governance) and Haq-e-Malkiat (the right of the people over their land and natural resources). Our demands are rooted in democratic values, accountable governance, and the implementation of commitments previously agreed through dialogue.

The Committee once again calls upon the Governments of Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir to engage in meaningful, good-faith negotiations, protect fundamental human rights, facilitate humanitarian access, and create the conditions necessary for a peaceful and lasting resolution of the current situation.

JKJAAC expresses its sincere appreciation to Imran Hussain MP, the APPG on Kashmir, Amnesty International, and all parliamentarians and human rights advocates who continue to monitor developments and advocate for the protection of the rights and dignity of the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
