JKJAAC Rejects Talal Chaudhry’s Allegations and Demands Evidence Be Produced Before a Court
JKJAAC rejects allegations made by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, linking the peaceful rights movement to an alleged arms network. The Committee calls on the Government to produce its evidence before a competent court, explain what action has been taken against alleged government and political facilitators, and ensure due process, transparency and equal accountability.

We, the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), categorically reject attempts to portray our peaceful, democratic and rights-based movement as an armed or militant organisation.
At a press conference in Islamabad on 16 September 2026, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, made serious allegations concerning an alleged weapons network and sought to associate individuals allegedly connected with JKJAAC with that network.
If the Government possesses credible evidence of criminal activity, it should place that evidence before a competent court, where it can be independently examined, challenged and tested in accordance with law.
A press conference is not a courtroom, and an allegation is not a conviction.
Majid Has Publicly Denied the Allegations
One of the individuals referred to by the Minister, Majid, has since issued a public video statement denying the allegations associated with him.
Majid states that he has been suffering from a stomach-related illness for approximately five weeks. He has also questioned the reliability of Zia, stating, based on his own knowledge of him, that Zia is not mentally well.
We make no medical determination regarding Zia. However, if the Government is relying upon statements, alleged admissions or recordings attributed to him, it should clarify whether his physical and mental condition was independently assessed, whether he had access to legal representation, and whether any statement attributed to him was recorded before a judicial magistrate.
The Government should also disclose whether the alleged audio recordings have been independently forensically authenticated and whether the complete recordings will be produced before a court.
What Action Has Been Taken Against the Government Employees and Political Figures Allegedly Involved?
Talal Chaudhry’s own account raises serious questions.
The Minister alleged that a government employee named Akbar was involved in transporting weapons and used his official position or institutional cover to facilitate their movement. He also referred to involvement or support by government employees and members of the political class.
We therefore ask:
Has Akbar been arrested? If not, why not? Which department or institution employed him? Has he been suspended, charged or produced before a court?
If weapons were allegedly transported through checkpoints using official cover, have the officials responsible for those checkpoints been questioned? Has there been any investigation into possible facilitation, negligence or abuse of authority?
The Minister also referred to political involvement. Which politicians or political figures was he referring to, and what action has been taken against them?
The same legal standard must apply to everyone.
Our Position on Armed Activity Has Always Been Clear
Our movement is peaceful and political.
Umar Nazir Kashmiri, a member of our Core Committee, has publicly and unequivocally rejected allegations that JKJAAC is engaged in an armed struggle.
Addressing participants of the 27 July gathering and Long March, he asked whether the march had been peaceful and whether anyone had been carrying a firearm. Those present responded that the protest had been peaceful.
He stated:
“We are struggling for our fundamental rights peacefully — completely peacefully.”
He further made clear that if any individual, armed group or militant organisation carries out an action independently, at someone’s direction or instigation, that activity has no connection with JKJAAC.
Our supporters have repeatedly been urged to exercise patience, restraint and steadfastness and to continue this struggle through peaceful and political means.
Where Is the Evidence Against JKJAAC as an Organisation?
If the Government alleges that JKJAAC as an organisation was involved in acquiring or supplying weapons, then it must produce evidence establishing organisational responsibility.
We ask the Government to show:
who within JKJAAC allegedly authorised such activity;
whether any such decision was ever taken by our Core Committee;
whether any organisational funds were used;
whether any weapons were recovered from an official JKJAAC office or authorised facility; and
what evidence establishes a direct chain between the alleged network and JKJAAC’s decision-making structure.
An allegation against an individual, a personal association or a telephone contact cannot automatically establish the criminal responsibility of an entire public movement.
Individual responsibility must remain individual unless evidence proves otherwise.
We call upon the Government to place its complete evidence before a competent judicial forum, ensure independent forensic examination of alleged recordings and digital material, disclose what action has been taken against all alleged facilitators, and ensure due process for all those accused.
We remain committed to the peaceful, political and democratic struggle for the fundamental rights of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
We also call upon journalists and independent observers to distinguish carefully between government allegations, independently verified evidence and facts established before a court.
Produce the evidence before a court.
Investigate every alleged facilitator equally.
Do not attribute the alleged actions of individuals to an entire peaceful movement without evidence.
