The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) takes note of the recent remarks made by the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

At the outset, JKJAAC reiterates its clear and principled position:

1. The ongoing movement in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is an indigenous, peaceful, and independent civil rights struggle. It is rooted entirely in the aspirations, grievances, and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and is not aligned with, nor influenced by, the narratives of any state actor.

2. Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory, whose final political status is to be determined in accordance with the right to self-determination and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are the primary stakeholders in determining their future.

3. JKJAAC firmly rejects any attempt by India to interpret, appropriate, or project the current situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in support of its own claims or geopolitical positions. The present civil rights movement is neither a proxy nor an extension of interstate rivalries. Any such characterisation is both inaccurate and misleading.

4. At the same time, JKJAAC underscores that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, across all regions, continue to face significant challenges relating to fundamental rights, political participation, and equitable governance. These concerns must be addressed through adherence to universal human rights principles and meaningful engagement with the people.

5. JKJAAC calls upon all authorities, including India, to uphold international human rights standards and to ensure that the rights, dignity, and freedoms of all individuals in the region are respected without exception.

The ongoing protests and sit-ins organized under JKJAAC are peaceful in nature and are grounded in the fundamental principles of non-violence, civic engagement, and democratic expression. Our core demands—Haq-e-Hukamrani (right to participatory governance) and Haq-e-Malkiat (right to ownership of local resources)—reflect legitimate aspirations rooted in justice and accountability.

We categorically reject any attempt to link our peaceful movement with geopolitical contestation or to misrepresent it as influenced by external actors. The voice expressed through these protests is the authentic voice of the people.

JKJAAC emphasizes that the current situation must not be selectively internationalized or politicized in ways that undermine legitimate civil rights demands. The path forward lies in dialogue, restraint, and respect for the will of the people.

In conclusion, JKJAAC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to peaceful struggle, constructive dialogue, and democratic engagement. The people of Jammu and Kashmir remain the rightful custodians of their land, resources, and future.
