The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) expresses its sincere appreciation to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for his expression of solidarity with the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. We also welcome his call for resolving all issues through peace, justice, and meaningful dialogue.
The people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir have been subjected to oppression, repression, and the killing of peaceful protesters. JKJAAC has always welcomed and participated in sincere and meaningful dialogue aimed at resolving disputes and addressing legitimate grievances. A clear example of this is the Muzaffarabad Agreement reached with the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Government of Pakistan regarding the acceptance of our Charter of Demands. We seek the full implementation of that agreement.

Mirwaiz of Kashmir Expresses Concern Over Growing Unrest Across the Line of Control
Calls for Dialogue, an Inclusive Political Process, and Respect for the Rights of the People
Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz of Kashmir, Dr Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, expressed deep concern and sorrow over the ongoing unrest across the Line of Control, particularly in Rawalakot, and the tragic loss of precious human lives.
The Mirwaiz stated:
"As we gather before Almighty Allah for Friday prayers today, our prayers and sympathies are with our brothers and sisters living across the Line of Control. The unrest that has continued over the past month and a half, together with the tragic loss of precious human lives, has caused us immense grief and sorrow. According to various reports, dozens of people have lost their lives, while some reports suggest that the number may be even higher. To establish the truth behind these incidents, an immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation is essential.
We mourn every loss of life, whether that of a civilian protester or a member of the police force. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and ask Almighty Allah to grant patience to the bereaved families and to bless those in positions of authority with justice, wisdom, and restraint."
He further stated that the recent events across the Line of Control, particularly in Rawalakot, serve as a reminder that while governments may administer territories and adopt different political positions, the true and principal stakeholders in the Jammu and Kashmir dispute are the people of the region themselves.
He noted that the governments administering both sides of the Line of Control claim to act in the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but in reality, the people themselves must remain at the centre of every decision concerning their future.
"We are one people, united by our shared history, family ties, culture, and our common historical identity as a single state.
Whether we live in Srinagar, Muzaffarabad, Birmingham, or anywhere else in the world, we are one nation. The Line of Control may have divided our land, but it has not divided our families, our shared history, or our commitment to our common future."
The Mirwaiz appealed to the Government of Pakistan and the local government across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir to engage in serious and meaningful dialogue with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and representatives of all sections of society.
He stressed that lasting peace, stability, and public confidence can only be achieved through dialogue, constitutional justice, and respect for the rights and dignity of every segment of society.
The Mirwaiz further observed that any genuine public movement can only retain its moral authority if it remains inclusive.
He stated that while advocating for the rights of one section of society, it would be inappropriate to ignore or undermine the constitutional rights of another. In particular, he emphasised that the voting rights and constitutional status of approximately three million Kashmiri refugees and migrants residing in different provinces of Pakistan should not be overlooked.
Their rights, he said, form an integral part of the collective rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and deserve equal respect and protection. He therefore urged both sides to seek a fair and mutually acceptable solution to this important issue based on justice and consensus.
The Mirwaiz reaffirmed that their struggle has always been for justice, human dignity, human rights, and the political rights of all the people of Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of region, ethnicity, or community, including religious minorities.
He stated that this struggle can only preserve its moral legitimacy if it embraces every Kashmiri living on both sides of the Line of Control and throughout the world without discrimination.
Concluding his address, the Mirwaiz said:
"On this blessed Friday, let us pray for peace, justice, reconciliation, and unity for our people. Let us pray that wisdom prevails over conflict, dialogue replaces violence, and unity triumphs over division. May Almighty Allah grant all governments and leaders the wisdom to regard the protection of the rights, dignity, and welfare of every son and daughter of Jammu and Kashmir as their foremost responsibility. Ameen."
