Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) has expressed grave concern over the tragic loss of innocent lives in Pandi, District Bagh, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and demanded an immediate, independent, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident.

Responding to recent statements by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesperson for JKJAAC stated that the Prime Minister must remember that he is the head of the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, not merely a political commentator. His primary responsibility is to protect the lives and rights of the people, uphold the rule of law and ensure justice, rather than level accusations against the Joint Awami Action Committee without presenting credible evidence.

The spokesperson emphasised that the tragic loss of innocent lives in Pandi, Bagh, is an extremely serious matter that must not be reduced to political accusations or attempts to shift responsibility. The incident demands an independent investigation based on verifiable facts and evidence.

"If the government has nothing to hide, it must immediately grant unrestricted access to international media, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and relevant United Nations human rights bodies and investigators to Pandi, Bagh, and the surrounding areas," the spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson further demanded that international observers and independent human rights investigators be allowed to visit the scene, interview victims' families and eyewitnesses, collect and preserve evidence, and establish the facts without interference, intimidation or restrictions.

The spokesperson raised several serious questions for the Prime Minister:

"Who is responsible for the deaths of these innocent people? What credible and verifiable evidence does the government possess to substantiate its allegations against the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee? If such evidence exists, why has it not been presented publicly or made available for independent scrutiny?"

The spokesperson stressed that no individual or institution should be above the law, regardless of their official position, political affiliation or institutional authority. Anyone found responsible for unlawful killings, whether associated with government departments, security agencies, political organisations or any other group, must be held accountable through an independent and lawful process.

The spokesperson further stated that the Prime Minister's responsibility extends far beyond issuing political statements. He must ensure an independent, credible and transparent investigation that earns the confidence of the victims' families and the wider public.

The protection of evidence, safety of witnesses, prevention of intimidation and full participation of affected families in the pursuit of justice must remain central to any investigation.

JKJAAC reaffirmed its commitment to demanding truth, justice and accountability for the victims and insisted that the circumstances surrounding these deaths must be established through an independent process rather than competing political narratives.

"Justice cannot be delivered through political accusations, government statements or predetermined conclusions. It requires credible evidence, transparency, independent investigation and accountability without exception. The victims and their families deserve the truth, and those responsible must face justice, regardless of their position or affiliation," the spokesperson concluded.
