Be Responsible, Be United”: Appeal to the People of AJK and the Global Kashmiri Diaspora to Avoid Sharing Unverified Content During the Crisis in Azad Kashmir

Rawalakot / Muzaffarabad / Islamabad / London / Sydney | 9 June 2026

The JKJAAC Advisory Council has issued an urgent appeal to the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and the overseas Kashmiri diaspora to refrain from sharing unverified news, old video clips, edited footage, or unconfirmed casualty figures during the ongoing crisis in Rawalakot and across AJK.

The statement warns that the circulation of unverified material—especially during a communications blackout—can unintentionally fuel panic, distort facts, endanger lives, and undermine the credibility of the people’s legitimate struggle for rights, dignity and justice.

A spokesperson said:

“This is a critical moment. The situation in Rawalakot is extremely sensitive. Sharing unverified videos or rumours—no matter how well‑intentioned—can cause confusion, fear and misjudgment. It can also be exploited by those who wish to delegitimise the peaceful civil rights movement in AJK.”

The leadership emphasised that the people of AJK and the diaspora have always demonstrated maturity, discipline and unity, and that this moment requires even greater responsibility.

Why Responsible Communication Matters Now

The statement highlights several risks associated with unverified content:

Old or unrelated videos can be misinterpreted as current events, creating unnecessary panic.

Unverified casualty figures can escalate tensions and provoke further crackdowns.

Edited or misleading clips can be used to discredit the peaceful nature of the JKJAAC movement.

Rumours can divide communities at a time when unity is essential.

False information can hinder humanitarian access, medical assistance and diplomatic engagement.

The spokesperson added:

“Our strength is our truth. Our credibility is our shield. In this moment of grief and crisis, we must protect both.”

Guidance for the Public and Diaspora

The statement urges all Kashmiris to follow these principles:

Share only verified information from credible, independent sources.

Avoid forwarding videos or images unless their authenticity, date and location are confirmed.

Do not circulate casualty numbers unless officially verified.

Report suspicious or misleading content to community groups instead of forwarding it.

Prioritise safety, dignity and accuracy over speed.

Support families and communities by preventing panic and misinformation.

The leadership stressed that responsible communication is not silence—it is strength, discipline and wisdom.

A Call for Unity and Calm

The statement concludes:

“The people of AJK are facing one of the most difficult moments in recent history. Our unity, discipline and wisdom will determine how we emerge from this crisis. Let us stand together, speak responsibly, and act with dignity. This is the time to protect our people, not to amplify fear.”

The diaspora is urged to remain aligned, coordinated and vigilant, and to support the people of AJK through verified information, humanitarian advocacy and calm leadership.
